GM Is the Only 4-Truck Player in the Field

IMG_2559 copy II

By now, most people know that GM is the only three-truck player in the pickup truck segment: mid-size, half ton and heavy duties. Unfortunately, that's not really true; they actually have four different pickups and segments available.

Excluding GMC from this discussion (which is essentially a mirror to Chevrolet), Chevy offers a mid-size choice in the Colorado; a major half-ton player in the form of the Silverado 1500; a three-quarter-ton, single-rear-wheel-only option for many work truck enthusiasts; and a king-of-the-hill one-ton dually (although offered with single rear wheels) heavy hauler for those with massive fifth-wheel campers or hotshot haulers who have to move the heaviest of towing loads.

Recently, we had the opportunity to see the full line of what Chevrolet has to offer, and we thought you might like to see the numbers (both gross vehicle weight rating and max towing) these differently sized pickups offer. In some ways, there's not a whole lot between them, yet in others, they shouldn't even be in the same parking lot.

This formula seems to be working, as it's very likely GM will sell more pickup pickups by year's end than any other pickup maker in the world. We'll know for sure by January; however, for the first six months of the year, from our preliminary calculations, GM has a pretty good lead over Ford. From the vehicles you see below, it's worth noting that it's not difficult (at all) to get a mid-size pickup priced close to a half ton or a three-quarter ton priced close to a one-ton — it's all about what you need (and what engine you choose), how much you need to load in the bed and what you're willing to pay for.

As for the future, Ford will be coming to the pickup market later this year with their own mid-size player (yes, the return of the Ford Ranger) and we're hearing grumblings from Ram Truck might do the same. In addition, Chevrolet also has a brand new medium-duty player (the Silverado 4500/5500/6500) that is ready for its debut, so expect them to possibly promote a seven-truck strategy soon.

Must be running out of news to talk about if this is all you have.

Who will be first?

To all the above posters...except one (Fullsize)...this is what matters:

GM has thankfully announced another recall to fix faulty brakes on their half a ton trucks. Apparently even GM believes their trucks should have properly functioning brakes.

Hopefully no more lives are lost due to these failures to pay attention to the little details.

GMs 9 truck lineup is amazing. Go GM!

Well this flies in the face of what that GM fan GMSRGREAT parrots day in and day out.

WHEN YOU CAN DRIVE THE BEST, GM

Gm's 4 truck strategy.

Colorado, Canyon, Silverado, Sierra, any questions?

Yes I have a question.

Why do you insist on lying?

@ GMSRGREAT.
Yes, we all have a question.
What took you so long to acknowledge what the rest of us have known seemingly forever?

This article makes no sense at all. You aren't counting GMC as part of GM's total, but include them in the sales? GM has 8 trucks, Chevy has 4 and GMC has 4 and together they will likely sell more than Fords 4 trucks, soon to be 5 trucks. Wow it's not that hard.

Yes I have a question.

Why do you insist on lying?

I don't think you're understanding the strategy. The equivalent GMC is the same as the Chevy Platform.

Hey Gretta is back from getting his recall fixed..., How's the gm kool-aide dispenser?..., Get filled up?..., awww, they still can't fix that chevy-shake'''..., You still need to apologize for the "menstruating" comment you made awhile back...

No mention of the GM recall for shoddy brake pedal?

“ General Motors is recalling about 41,000 pickup trucks and police sports utility vehicles because of loose brake pedals. “

The recall covers 2015 through 2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 special service pickup trucks and some Chevrolet Tahoe sports utility vehicles made for police departments and other government agencies. “

And let’s not forget the 240k GM vehicles recalled for rear brake failure that was issued this week.

The other Chingon is a Moron. FORD ALL THEVWAY BABY!!!! Hey Garbage motors fan GIRLYS How are the push rods hanging?

@Chingon

Well, since you ask---the pushrods in my Chevy V8 work great. The motor has over 100k miles on it and there's no leaks or smoke.

Never have to add oil between changes. No broken timing chains, no funky cam phasers, no multi-valve heads, no sweat.

THE JUNK 5.4 IN MY FORD KEEPS KNOCKING, NOW STP CANT EVEN KEEP IT QUIET. GUESS I'LL HAVE TO TRADE IT IN ON A REAL TRUCK- ( A GM )

There is only one model. Go ahead, you can say it.

From the article and your manufacturer of choice.
Would you be refering to the 1500 half ton model or the 2500HD 3/4 ton model or the 3500HD 1 ton model?

@ GMSRGREAT.
Yes, we all have a question.

Do all your multiple personalities want to speak at once.....HAHAHA?

Your nonsense response tells it all.
I understand it has been a bad week for the guy or gal who likes to say " mark my word", with recalls of trucks that dont steer, truvks that don't brake, and trucks who airbags deploy when you sneeze or go over the speed bump at the mall (Mall rated, lol).

Hey Gretta..., Let's go ahead and bring up all 12 of your personalities that you post under on this website...
Remember, you need to apologize for that "menstruating " comment you made awhile back...

Funny you would bring that up again. Interesting..... that comment you speak of, was that about a month ago.

I reached out to Matt over the phone to learn about what happened. He told me that he was at an off-road fundraiser for autism in Pottsville, Pennsylvania in his two-door 2011 Jeep Wrangler, when traffic started to slow. The group in front of him was having trouble traversing one of the most difficult obstacles on the relatively mild “advanced green” trail; particularly, the white Chevy ZR2 was struggling to find the right line up and over a rock.

So Matt and his group stepped out of their rigs, and walked up the path to observe the truck attempt the climb. “This was like the third or fourth [attempt], and I said ‘you know what, I’m gonna video this,’” Matt told me.

So he did. That’s when the apparently stock Chevy Colorado ZR2 bumped its way over the rock, and was home free. At least, that’s what it seemed like until the vehicle traveled farther up the incline. “They’re almost to a stop, and you can hear the pop, and you see the airbag come down, and you hear the girl scream,” Matt said.

You can option Chevy's full size truck many different ways, but it all come down to one model truck. The one word is written on every full size model truck that Chevy produces, go ahead, you can say it.

Gretta..., You should write a word of apology for that "menstruating" comment you made..., you can write it...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA the Garbage motors fan GIRLYS are mad!!!! Hey about piston slap 👋!!

@Gmsrgreat
You are incorrect. Chevrolet knows how many models and platforms. You need to read, read with comprehension. They know better than you.
One family name. Under which are Two Platforms, with a total of Three Models.
Yes you can say it, I know you can. It may be painful but you can. The first step in getting better and not bitter is to get on board with the truth. I know you can, stop deceiving yourself. Come into the sunshine of truth.

C'mon Gretta..., go ahead..., you can do it..., apologize for the "menstruating" comment...
