GM Is the Only 4-Truck Player in the Field

IMG_2559 copy II

By now, most people know that GM is the only three-truck player in the pickup truck segment: mid-size, half ton and heavy duties. Unfortunately, that's not really true; they actually have four different pickups and segments available.

Excluding GMC from this discussion (which is essentially a mirror to Chevrolet), Chevy offers a mid-size choice in the Colorado; a major half-ton player in the form of the Silverado 1500; a three-quarter-ton, single-rear-wheel-only option for many work truck enthusiasts; and a king-of-the-hill one-ton dually (although offered with single rear wheels) heavy hauler for those with massive fifth-wheel campers or hotshot haulers who have to move the heaviest of towing loads.

Recently, we had the opportunity to see the full line of what Chevrolet has to offer, and we thought you might like to see the numbers (both gross vehicle weight rating and max towing) these differently sized pickups offer. In some ways, there's not a whole lot between them, yet in others, they shouldn't even be in the same parking lot.

This formula seems to be working, as it's very likely GM will sell more pickup pickups by year's end than any other pickup maker in the world. We'll know for sure by January; however, for the first six months of the year, from our preliminary calculations, GM has a pretty good lead over Ford. From the vehicles you see below, it's worth noting that it's not difficult (at all) to get a mid-size pickup priced close to a half ton or a three-quarter ton priced close to a one-ton — it's all about what you need (and what engine you choose), how much you need to load in the bed and what you're willing to pay for.

As for the future, Ford will be coming to the pickup market later this year with their own mid-size player (yes, the return of the Ford Ranger) and we're hearing grumblings from Ram Truck might do the same. In addition, Chevrolet also has a brand new medium-duty player (the Silverado 4500/5500/6500) that is ready for its debut, so expect them to possibly promote a seven-truck strategy soon.

Alright, Alright! Enough already!

There are more trucks sold with Silverado written on them than either F-150, Superduty, Ram or Tundra.

Gretta.., Alright, Alright! Enough already!..., Just apologize for the "menstruating" comment you made awhile back...

Now, now you know better than that.
You know full well there are more F Series pickup trucks sold than any other. More than Silverado and Sierra put together.
You are so easily distracted. The topic is Chevrolet 4 truck stategy . Lets recap 4 models, Colorado,Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500HD, Silverado 3500HD.

Excerpt from article:
......... it's very likely GM will sell more pickup pickups by year's end than any other pickup maker in the world.

GM will then have sold the most for the last 3 - 4 years running.

Gretta..., Why wait for the new year's rush..., Apologize now for the "menstruating" comment you made awhile back...

Are you still talking about pick-up trucks?

Maybe they are working on one right now. Be patient.

Gretta..., You should be working on an apology for the "menstruating" comment you made awhile back...

actually, you're a bit short sighted to ignore the 4500 5500 and the ugly as sin 6500.

fords got the ranger, f150, f250, f350, f450, 550, 650 and 750. ford has offerings all the way from class 1 to 7. you also got the raptor for that guy in the midlife crisis that needs an expensive vehicle, but doesn't want to be seen in a smaller car.

Isn’t gm like a 9 truck player???

Chevy

The new international Kodiak thingy badged as a Chevy

Wow great to see the mentally challenged posting on here. For the rest of us, we understand that the GMC and Chevy trucks are essentially the same exact truck with different feature combinations and slightly modified bodies. A cheap way to gain more sales.

Chevy=GMC
Colorado=Canyon
1500=1500
2500=2500
3500=3500

Like others on here have made clear in the past. GMC and Chevy share practically every single part except for badges, body panels, some meaningless trim differences, and some brand specific features. Otherwise, they are the same truck built at the same plants.

why does not GM have a commercial saying they make the most trucks.

Why does Ford not have a commercial saying that their truck engines are the longest lasting, most reliable truck engines on the road? Because they're unreliable throwaway trash. With all those Crown Vics used in NYC for all those years, you would think Ford would mention it. Know why they don't? Because they were CONSTANTLY in the shop for work or engine replacement. Sorry, it's just the TRUTH.

Ram fans are off topic.
Be patient there will be articles on Ford and Ram.
This is GM's day in the partial sun.

ALL GUTS

ALL GLORY

THE REAL PLAYER IN THE PICKUP SEGMENT

CLASS LEADING RAM TRUCKS

Just don't Off-Road the ZR2 or the Airbags will deploy, WOW, you can't use the truck for it's intended design.

GM is funny, comical.

Sorry, but I'm not seeing 4 trucks.

The HD line really is the same truck as there is no major difference between a 2500 and a 3500 SRW aside from a few extra leaf springs.

This article is an ad hoc goof off piece for sure.

I don't see the difference in a 2500/3500 except for payload and leave springs.

So it should be as followed:

Mid-Size

Half-ton

Heavy Duty--2500/3500

4500, 5500, 6500 are in another class..what ever wonderful "strong" name we want to give them.

Now, give me a 2500 GMC SLT Premium Plus Duramax with an Allison transmission. Best performing diesel the past 3 years in comparison tests.

SFA = death wobble by 10k miles and the dealer tells you to just keep it under 65 mph.

manual locking hubs = You're better hope you have them, because Ford's ESOF vac hubs are complete and utter trash.

low range transfer case = available in trucks from every brand. the only problem is that Ford went to those plastic vac hubs that fail left and right. low range isn't very useful when you can't lock the hubs.
