2019 Ram 1500 Chosen as Truck of Texas

After two days of rain-soaked test drives of 57 qualifying pickup trucks, SUVs and crossovers, the Texas Auto Writers Association selected the new 2019 Ram 1500 as the Truck of Texas.

The overall prize is typically the most coveted of several awards presented by the professional organization, which this year included 69 journalists choosing 24 category winners. In addition to the Truck of Texas overall award, the 2019 Ram 1500's Limited trim scored a win in the Full-Size Pickup Truck category, the Laramie Longhorn variant won for Luxury Pickup Truck, and the Rebel won for Off-Road Pickup Truck.

Ram parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles had an especially good year this time around. The 2019 Maserati Levante GTS won the SUV of Texas and Full-Size Luxury SUV category, while the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio took home the CUV of Texas as well as winning the Luxury CUV category.

"Being named the Texas Auto Writers Association's Truck of Texas is the highest honor in the world's largest pickup market," said Reid Bigland, newly appointed head of Ram brand and U.S. sales and chairman, president and CEO of FCA Canada. "The all-new Ram 1500 offers the best combination of class-exclusive features, refinement, capability and efficiency. Winning this award is a challenge, but the Ram 1500 is well-suited to the hard-working needs of Texas truck buyers."

Other FCA winners included the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara (Mid-Size SUV), 2019 Dodge Durango SRT (Full-Size SUV), 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit (Mid-Size Luxury SUV), 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (Off-Road Utility Vehicle), 2018 Ram 2500 Power Wagon (Heavy-Duty Pickup), Uconnect 4C with a 12-inch screen (Best Technology) and Ram's eTorque mild-hybrid unit (Best Powertrain).

It's worth noting that this year's competition did not include any Ford or GM (Chevy or GMC) products because each of those manufacturers decided not to attend this year's event.

Well this turned out to be a hollow victory. "It's worth noting that this year's competition did not include any Ford or GM (Chevy or GMC) products because each of those manufacturers decided not to attend this year's event."

Congrats on winning first (and last place) since it was basically a compitetion of one...

Darn, I wasn't first. I hate anyone who gets to the comment section before me. This comment section is my life.

The RAM probably would have won anyway, even if all the trucks had participated. People are suckers for interiors, which are not deserving of the truck of the year. But once they put a Cummins in it, it WILL be deserving.

Go to hell FAKE papa

If you're going to use my name at least SPELL correctly. I've labored all my life to escape my illiteracy. It was hard work.

For some clown spoofing my name on a pickup truck comments section to say DAM as a curse makes my few remaining hairs stand on end. Thanks for enduring my scorn.

Now, about the 2019 RAM. I'm still looking forward to driving one. From everything I can see and read about, I'm convinced that the new RAM is the class of the field for people who want a terrific suburban cruiser, Interstate traveler and haul-the-boat to the lake truck.

Work truck? Maybe not so much, but if you want to pimp the daylights out of every dude in the neighborhood.

Your illiteracy is still a problem. Read it again. Its says "darn", not dam.

But maybe we are having a good influence on you. Since you actually talked about the truck on this page after the gibberish. Not bad, not bad.

Cummins is still the only reason to buy a RAM truck. I will do without the luxury, thank you.

I am waiting to see what the 2020 Ram 2500 or 3500 has to offer.

I don't want a bed shorter than 6 feet. I hope they still offer a stick shift option.

Piece of junk. 4 link rear 4 corner air ride option and a 12 inch touch screen? It's a soccer mom/khaki shorts weekend warrior yuppie truck. Jeep is the only brand keeping FCA's head above water. Plus the dodge durango really? They still make that thing?

Well, compared to a Tacoma, it is a piece of junk. But compared to a Ford, its not too bad.

@ Tacoma2011, Obviously you don't tow. I haven't seen any Tacoma with a trailer. lol Does the Tacoma have power windows yet?

@ Ooops, guess they new they had no chance with their already outdated products. lol

Congrats to FCA their hard work has paid off again. No doubt their products are top of the line. Class of their own. Once again leaving the competition playing catchup to all their high tech options.

@HEMI V8 I've never needed power windows to haul firewood or deer out of the woods....................................................

Hollow victory, but it did beat the Jap trucks. I guess.

Hey! I'm the real papajim!

I'll prove it.

I know everyone should look at Tesla shares, they will rise to over $800.

I know the US market and car business better than anyone.

I'm the REAL papajim!

question: Who's the craziest cockroach in the whole chicken coop?
answer: that would be Big Al from Australia

This was hugely deserved. Fiat-Chrysler did a commendable job on this new truck. It can't tow or haul more than the Ford, and it's, um, uh... WHAT?? No Ford or GM vehicles attended this event?

I retract my statement.

57 vehicles in 24 catagories? hmmmm

we test drove the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, and really liked it but settled on the Grand Cherokee Overland High Altitude, rides smooth as silk and gets 26 on the highway at 75...

Great job, nice to see GM continuing to fail at everything. One day they have a real truck, not a 20 year old sled....

It's worth noting that many don't consider works from the Texas Auto Writers Association's reputable or anything that holds any weight.

Yes because Texas is the King of truck buyers lol. I mean, why would they even consider bringing their trucks to this event? When is the last time ford and chevy missed this event BTW?

@redbloodedxy - "... WHAT?? No Ford or GM vehicles attended this event..."

Great point Redbloodymess...I managed to find a video of the reaction of Ford executives when they were asked to attend the event....
