Old-Gen Jeep Wrangler Custom Camper a Work in Progress

With the all-new Jeep Scrambler on the way, companies like American Expedition Vehicles — which has created its own Jeep Brute pickup truck conversion with great success among enthusiastic customers — are now thinking about coming to market with their own self-contained overlanding campers. Shown at the 2017 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas, the AEV Outpost II Jeep concept could make it to market if there's enough customer enthusiasm.

The customized Outpost II model is based off the previous-generation JK Wrangler but offers a longer overall length with the help of extended frame rails at the rear of the vehicle. The longer (for the four-door Unlimited models) factory wheelbase could help potential owners incorporate any aftermarket suspension lift or modification. The Wrangler Unlimited platform was essentially converted to a chassis cab before the custom camper shell was fabricated and attached.

The marine-style camper includes a refrigerator, freezer, stove and 22-gallon freshwater tank, with many of the amenities and storage accessible from the outside. AEV CEO and lead designer Dave Harriton added a few more details in its latest iteration and equipped the Outpost II with a 5.7-liter Hemi; we're told the more powerful 6.4-liter Hemi will fit, as well. Underneath the Outpost II, AEV included two Dynatrac ProRock axles (front 44 and rear 60), both with a heavy-duty brake kit. Each axle has 17-inch Borah DualSport wheels and 37-inch BFGoodrich mud-terrain tires.

AEV reports that the original concept vehicle had more than 600 handmade parts on it, but some of those parts are now available for other mainstream AEV Jeep products. This work in progress is likely to go through a few more changes as it now serves as Harriton's mobile office and backwoods explorer. Feel free to offer your own changes or upgrades in the comments section below.

Papa- one of the dumbest comments from you ever. Do you have a clue about anything?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You fellows must be posting from the east coast. It is only 8:10 am when I looked at this post. Many times it is 6 am and there are posts with later time stamp. So I figure eastern time zone?

One of the pictures looked like Moab area. Neat place only ran into one jerk last trip in April. Apparently BLM land has no rules for dogs off leash bothering everyone.

Very very common in this part of the world
