2020 GMC Sierra 2500/3500: Spied

In the wake of Chevrolet's reveal of the 2020 Silverado 2500/3500 — and all the commentary, good and bad, the heavy-duty trucks' looks have elicited — our spy shooters have captured the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 pickups near GM's Milford Proving Ground in Michigan.

Some of them are not completely covered, so we can see the Chevrolet and GMC HDs will share platforms once again — just like GM's light-duty siblings. However, it does look like there will be several exterior distinctions. Here's what our shooters just sent us regarding the GMC three-quarter and one-ton duallys.

"A prototype for the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali dropped its camouflage for a run on public roads, revealing the headlight and grille design for the pickup's top trim level. The similarities and differences between the Sierra 2500 and Sierra 1500 are on display here. The Sierra HD's face looks more rugged than the light-duty Sierra 1500, with a chunkier grille and headlight treatment, but the heavy chrome finish still dominates this new prototype. We also see the Denali's LED taillights thoroughly revealed through the light camouflage mesh, leaving little to the imagination.

"Just as with the Silverado HD prototype, we can verify that the Sierra also will get the bed step integrated into the rear fender just aft of the cab. One of the Denali prototypes had a covered tailgate, likely shrouding a variation of the MultiPro six-way tailgate that's unique to the GMC truck lineup.

"We also got our first look at an uncovered GMC Sierra 3500 SLT dual-rear-wheel crew cab revealing a completely unique grille treatment for the sub-Denali trim level. The grille treatment is a thorough departure from the Sierra 1500. The horizontal slats have a unique 'open-slat' design along with additional detailing completely unique to the HD model.

"We also can now see the more chiseled design details applied to the wider dual-rear-wheel box. The wide-body design also incorporates the 'step side' seen on the Silverado 2500/3500 crew cab. We see that the integrated side step resides at the front corner of the rear fender — just aft of the crew cab's rear doors. The integrated side step will always be placed at the front-most corner of the rear box, regardless of bed length."

And refer to TFL where a 6.2L Sierra gets clobbered by a 5.0L F150 - in an actual heads up race.

@ lawn ranger

How about u start by being honest and using just one name. One step at a time...
You'll get there....everyone does with alittle faith

Have a great night

@ imposter

Clobbered. It won by a bumper the first race and a wheel well the second. Lmfao.....clobbered. and it was 2wd....hahaha

Please see car and driver
5.4 secs vs 5.9 secs. That more of a clobbering

I can tell u dont drive a truck and of u do. U drive a gutless 4.6L or 5.4 that took over 9 secs to reach 60.......

Thanks for finally admitting that FACT your dads 6.2L Sierra loses to a 5.0L F150.

My world lights up just fine with the projector headlamps on my Silverado HC.
As for the commandments, they act as the guide that directs me to live my best and drive the best pick-ups, CHEVY.

Will be an "Allison approved" transmission not designed or built by Allison.

The 6-speed Allison used in GM HD trucks for the last decade were already not built by Allison. They were being built in GM's
Baltimore plant.

And now a little history....

The 1996 Ford Exploder is one of the worst models of all-time because of how unsafe it truly was. This model was known for essentially breaking itself down after a very short amount of time. This definitely made it an incredibly unsafe vehicle and easily one of the worsts from them. This vehicle was also supposed to be a top notch family car, so that definitely hurt its value when it became the complete opposite of that. Did someone say rollover?

GMSRGREAT once there was a very venomous spider. This venomous spider was friends with a human. The human didn't want anyone to know that he was friends with a venomous spider, for fear that they would run away. So the spider lived in the human's nose.

Years went by, and eventually the human forgot all about his spider friend. So one day, while the human was picking, he felt a large obstruction in the way. So he picked and picked and pulled out the large obstruction. A booger! The human was pulling at the massive booger, and saw something wrapped up in it. It was the spider. So the human wrapped the spider in the booger again, lifted the booger up to his face, popped it into his mouth and ate it like a booger-spider dumpling.

It is true, Ford has about 50% of the HD pickup market, Ram about 30%. GM between the 2 divisions has about 20%.
It is a pathetic showing for a truck with the Duramax and Allison combo, but the GM HDs have been outclassed. Their 2007 GMT900 suspension update didn’t make any appreciable sales difference. 4 Out of 5 HD pickup truck buyers skip over GM.
What’s worse is that while GM has a competitive 1/2 ton, there is little desire to build a better HD. The entire reason GM didn’t have a John Deere diesel before Dodge had the Cummins is because Roger Smith refused to back of the ridiculous torsion bar IFS in the HDs. Dodge was a non-player in the truck market before the Cummins and certainly before the 1994 redesign.
GM could design a better truck, but they won’t. Ever notice GM won’t go back on their past design departures? They call that a paradigm at Kettering.

@James

please. Are you saying that all those fleet-trimmed F250s with the trash 5.4 engines count?

You give the same "points" for a fleet F250 that you'd give for a nicely trimmed Sierra Denali for example.

You need to rethink that. Even if we're including a few 6.0 equipped fleet GMCs, there isn't a comparison in quality.

@James

please. Are you saying that all those fleet-trimmed F250s with the trash 5.4 engines count?

why not? GM has always struggled in the HD department

You give the same "points" for a fleet F250 that you'd give for a nicely trimmed Sierra Denali for example.

yes why not a sale is a sale weather it's to John Smith or to Comcast, when a truck rolls down the assembly line they don't count it because it's not a fleet vehicle come on man

You need to rethink that. Even if we're including a few 6.0 equipped fleet GMCs, there isn't a comparison in quality.

that's a question i have for you, the way you gm guys talk about reliability from GM HD motors why does GM struggle in HD sales compared to Ford and Ram

there's a construction company up the road from where i was born and raised, thru the mid 2000's i'd drive by there and all you would see is GM products, cars, 1/2 tons, 3/4 tons, with the exception of a F-550 and a F-450, all gas vehicles,

since '08 or '09 they started buying all Fords and today all GM products have been replaced with Ford products, i don't know why but the 1st chance i get i'm going to ask why they switched

When GM went thru bankruptcy not only did they drop the bigger trucks they also dropped parts. When you have to get parts for a year old truck out of the junk yard fleet managers don't forget.
The GM junkies on this forum will say this never happened but it did.

Please post a link to prove your statement!

This should be real interesting....ill wait, and wait.

Im still waiting on a link or proof to back it up.

FACTS.

I guess its another Full of $h!t comment like usual!!!

@tntonline Have you noticed every time you start your juvenile hissey fit multi-posting every body just leaves. Well it not because you are dazzling them with brilliance.

@JTT

please use quotation marks in the future. You idiotic editing of my comments really pis*ses me off. FOOL

@ papajim (which ever papajim you may be)
If that is all you have to worry about life is good.

Seriously. I don't want other readers to think I wrote the total fool crap that you put out.

Everybody else seems to manage that step but you seem to struggle. Maybe when you grow up, eh?

@ papajim

Full of $h!t is just that. You asked him to prove himself. He never can. He is a parasite that litters this site with gibberish nonsense.

Just watch he will use his famous MJ saying and family member comment. He twists words to make himself feel better. He is a lost soul that doesnt even drive a truck.

I mean how can a guy come onto a truck website and talk sma k and not even own a truck. Thats a person with serious issues.

@ papajim A little grumpy this morning are we.
