Next Up: Sport Package for 2019 Ram 2500/3500

2019 Ram Heavy Duty Sport copy II

Following the debut of the 2019 Ram 2500/3500 at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the truckmaker took the opportunity to reveal a new Sport Package for the heavy-duty lineup at the 2019 New England International Auto Show in Boston. The Boston show runs through Monday if you live in the area and want to check it out.

The Sport Package offers a popular monochromatic design theme with body-color bumpers, door handles and grille surrounds. The grille remains the focal point of the front end with chrome slats and the Ram name in the center; all badging also is unchanged. Inside, the Sport Package offers the black headliner and Piano Black interior accents with roughened copper highlights seen on the new 2019 Ram 2500 Laramie Black Edition interior.

The new package will be available on the Big Horn/Lone Star and Laramie trims for the 2500 and 3500, which means that all cab and powertrain configurations will be available with this new package as well. The Sport Package offers 12 colors including the three newest: Billet Silver, Patriot Blue and Diamond Black Crystal.

This new package is part of Ram's strategy to bring many of the light-duty Ram 1500's popular features and ordering configurations to the HD lineup. If history is any indication, we assume Ram will unveil more special editions and unique ordering packages as other HD truckmakers roll out their newest versions. We expect to see the coming 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 and 2020 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 models in the near future, which will also have a strong resemblance to their lighter-duty counterparts.

Love the look of the red one...but then again I do not buy on looks.

Chrome on a sport truck - looks awful.

Biggie Smalls wants the new RAM 2500.

Ram's designers have completely ruined the looks of these trucks. It's disgusting. I can't believe management thinks it's a good move to get rid of the Ram grille that's been the key characteristic of Ram trucks for the last 25 years. The crosshair grille in the 80's was okay on a squarebody truck, but in 94 when the big rig look came out, that was a huge game changer for the Dodge Ram. It's the biggest reason Ram trucks have had the success they've had. This truck has no character. It's bland. Forgetttable. It has no presence.

Agree with Jeff. The red and chrome sport is awful looking. papajim can't take opposing views.

It's amazing to see the magnitude of Ford's influence on the rest of the industry.

"We expect to see the coming 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 and 2020 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 models in the near future, which will also have a strong resemblance to their lighter-duty counterparts"...a full reveal of the Sierra HD hasnt happened so cant speak on that, but the HD Silverado doesnt look much like the 1500 Silverado, especially when compared to how close the front ends of the HD and LD Rams resemble each other

I like the looks of the Ram. Might not be as big rig like in looks but it is nice looking truck and the interiors are nice. Next to the 2019 Silverado this is a beautiful truck.

The rest of the industry loves Ford. Their stockholders sell the Ford Motor shares and buy the FCA and GM shares. I'd be grateful to them for that.

@papajim

Textbook butterfly effect example.

I like it, just some light touches of chrome to make it pop.

I think the chrome looks good.

Chrome will get you home.

FCA and Ford

Head and shoulders above GM garbage

The new Ram and Silverado embarrasses the F-series. Ford has the oldest looking trucks on the planet.

I'll take this truck in Yellow.

Certainly looks better then the Fords, holding out judgement on the new GM’s until I see them I person.

Islam offends me. No other major religion does. Islam should offend all who cherish such wonderful things as liberty, equality under the law, women’s rights, romantic love, a Golden Rule extended to our entire species, true democracy, an enlightened legal system (much of Sharia is abysmal and barbaric), a proper moral code (Islamic ethics are an insult to ethics), pictorial art, music and, yes indeed, fine pork products and alcohol.

Any Muslim reading this, or any silly, subservient dhimmi who defends Islam, I say stick it where the sun never shines because Islam makes me sick as does any defense of Islam. Done here (for now, because I will be back).

need the sport package on the power wagon.

Give me some low profile tires on a 2500 sport truck... and make sure it's a 4x4 with max tow package. Ya, that's the ticket. :)

The above was written by someone wishes they were the real GMSRGREAT. For the record, I work with Muslims and have no issues with these individuals.

The Ford fangays have ruined this comments section.

Although I'm a RAM fan mostly for their looks and best ride, I will probably never buy one now (well maybe a Hellcat version) as this new design/grille has gotten too soft, lost that aggressiveness that made them standout from the rest.

Well that's my taste of course but was probably the right move for them & managed to swipe No.2 spot from cheby...

which year did RAM get the number two spot, Lionel?

I had a WD last night involving Mary Barra. Ram needs to learn from GM in soooooooo many ways. You should buy their stock. I sold everything I own to buy GM stock. Now I am worth thousands of dollars.

Please let's can any discussion of religion and politics. Let's just talk trucks. People using others user names is ruining this site. As for brands let's agree to disagree.

@papajim--Seems Wall Street has some reservations about the Ford and VW joint venture.

@Jeff S

No different than I said last week. The marketing/media people at VW and Ford cynically used the occasion of the auto show to take to spotlight off a very ugly announcement that Ford had missing its 4th Quarter targets. The following day their stock was down six percent. Considering how close Ford is to its five-year low stock price, dropping 6% was a big deal that might have been a whole lot worse if not for the hoopla about a deal with VW.

All that said, the VW deal had no luster for me anyhow. Still doesn't. Ford needs the friendship of some billionaire like Warren Buffett. VW is a weak brand in the US with a spotty product and reputation, horrible product catalog and all of the diesel mess.

@papajim--Well the market seems to agree with you. Other Ford news is that the Fusion will continue.

"Despite the ongoing collapse of the country’s passenger car market, the Fusion remains the best-selling car nameplate in Ford’s stable. Its 173,600 U.S. sales in 2018 represent a 17.2 percent decline from a year prior.

After seeing production data for a 2020 Fusion, CarsDirect sought confirmation from Ford. Company spokesperson Sam Schembari replied in the affirmative. Yes, there’ll still be Fusions on shopping lists for the 2019 and 2020 model years."

I wish I could find something exciting in that news, Jeff. It's the difference between cancer and paralysis. Heart disease and TB.

I'm not always blasting Ford over just one thing. It's a horribly managed company. Minus their trucks, they'd have been out of business 10 years ago. They run stuff into the ground. In the 1980s their product development and product quality was very good. Today it's a joke.

Their executive offices are the place that people go to watch their careers die. The CEO is a revolving door. It's no accident that their stock price has cratered in the last five years.

Great companies have great managers. Who would want to work there today?

VW has a16.9% holding in Navistar. Navistar builds GM medium duty trucks.

I'm gonna have to pull the disagree cord on that one, papa.

Ford's product offerings [cars and SUVs] haven't been any worse than what GM and Fiat have been peddling for the lat 15 years or so. Lincoln consistently has ranked higher than Cadillac per owner satisfaction surveys [CR].

How that translates to the stock market is more easily explained by my FP, so I won't go there.

@redbloodedxy

You selected a quote but you failed to refute it. You simply made a gratuitous assertion. If Ford had stopped making F150s when they dropped the Ranger, they'd be out of business today.

Give me a manager that eats red meat and drinks dry martinis. The guy that runs the joint is a bleeping vegetarian. He would not be there if it weren't for his last name. Period.

Gas mileage was the big battle of the 2000-2010 time frame. Ford is still fighting that war. GM and RAM sell millions of big fat lumbering trucks and SUVs because Ford bailed on those customers.

Have you taken a F150 to a Ford service department in the last 10 years? I doubt it.

I have been to Ford's service dept. It sucks balls. I now drive a Subaru.

In answering your prior point [if I understand it correctly]:

Ford Explorer is the number one seller in its class, and the best selling SUV in the country. The Highlander is number two.

Oh and to your point about the F-150. Apply that to Silverado and GM is toast [yes, the entire company]. Margins are everything when you are selling widgets.

Agree. But, the Explorer that Ford's been selling since they dropped the rear drive model (ten years?) is really just a Volvo XC90 with Ford lipstick and a lousy water pump.

Here's how I reconcile it.

The American people voted for Obama twice. He had zero in the way of serious political experience---but won both times. McCain and Romney were choir boys compared to the mob mentality that infected the whole Obama administration. Go figure. Some things just cannot be explained.

That's some funny stuff. Have you been living in a cave the past 2 years.

fake GMSRGREAT

@Papa

Interesting. I detest Obama and McCain and Romney were/are establishment clowns.

You probably can guess who my Presidential pick is.

As far as the Exploder goes, hey--it sells.

Calling McCain or Romney "a choir boy" is faint praise. Either of them was head/shoulders above Obama. Neither McCain or Romney was a very effective campaigner, but they lost because the New York/DC establishment chose Obama.

As an appearance package it works.

@redbloodedxy

"It's amazing to see the magnitude of Ford's influence on the rest of the industry."

Actually the F250 was changed drastically for the 1999 model year as a direct result of Dodge Ram game changing redesign that first appeared in 1994.

Adam Rippon is proud of his butt and makes it clears it’s not enhanced. He also is proud of his large, muscular thighs and six-pack abs.
