2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Makes History at Daytona 500

2019-Daytona500-Silverado-PaceTruck-03 II

A small piece of pickup truck history was Feb. 17 when the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 became the first pickup truck to pace the 2019 Daytona 500 NASCAR race. Two-time Daytona 500 winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. led the pack in the pace truck at Daytona International Speedway in Florida for the 61st running of the race in a special-edition 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 equipped with the 6.2-liter gas V-8 (420 horsepower and 460 pounds-feet of torque) and 10-speed transmission.

"The Daytona 500 weekend is home to some of the most memorable moments in racing," Chevrolet U.S. vice president of performance and motorsports Jim Campbell said in a statement. "This is an exciting opportunity to introduce the strongest, most advanced Silverado ever to race fans all weekend long."

Denny Hamlin won the Great American Race in the No. 11 Toyota Camry; Kyle Larson piloting the No. 42 Camaro was the first Chevy driver to cross the finish line, placing seventh.

As a Daytona 500 sponsor, Chevrolet provided a huge experience center for attendees who wanted to find out what it's like to camp out and walk through several auto displays on the infield of the racetrack. As part of the weekend festivities and a Chevy Cares partnership with the American Cancer Society, Joey Miller and his family were able to camp out in "Hotel Silverado," a group of six new Silverados equipped with tents and beds set up in the infield.

Everytime u post u are a liar! U don't post facts, and u are posting on a truck forum, when u don't drive a truck.

A huge liar. Trying to be something you're clearly not....so sad

Again, no change

Still πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

@ old gm guy

Have u seen one in person yet? They look 100 times better. Still not as good looking as the 88 to 98 body styles. My favorite. Especially my 98. Love that style

@tntonline the liar. Again you respond and prove yourself a LIAR. You are pathetic.

@papadim the insulter. Ford F-Series is the best selling vehicle in the world. The Silverado has been losing market share since 2015.

Idiot. Repeat after me:

The FSeries is not a single vehicle---the Fseries is not a single vehicle. I'll be back in a minute)...

Papajim the insulter. Are you drunk his afternoon.

@PapaJoke

You don’t fly off the handle when GMRSGREAT, aka flea market, claims the Silverado is single vehicle. Better take some of your medicine. The two other GM t rolls don’t want you to have another stroke

You are a hypocrite

Some videos of the pace setting Silverados at Daytona. Ford fans can watch but seriously, wipe the drool off your face after, losers.

It’s a FREE PUBLIC SITE and COMMENT SECTION you lying hypocrite.

If you want to act like a muslim supremacist, start your own website and enforce your hate rules there.

These are the people papajim idolizes

What a loser. But it’s fitting. Papajim, a loser, supports a loser ideology

I wish people would not disparage people of different religions on this site, what does that have to do with pickup trucks? Unfortunately, there are some extremists out there, and they should absolutely be dealt with...but I think the numbers are very low in terms of extremists in this country. We should be screening immigrants VERY carefully before they are allowed to stay here, legal or illegal. Let's go back to talking about trucks.

@ Texas 1836

Agreed. Unfortunately, everyday there is a few that ruin it bc they just wanna banter all day long. And they don't even drive trucks..that's pathetic

As for you saying a 6.2L would be on your list. That's a very good choice. I have one and haven't been more pleased

V8 sound and performance with very good FE. Get better than any EcoBoost in the family

The two other GM t rolls don’t want you to have another stroke

Posted by: Brawndo | Feb 20, 2019 2:17:28 PM

Who are these two other t rolls you speak of?

@TNT

I am almost certainly going to get an HD next, loved my previous 2007 Silverado HD. I think we have both commented favorably on the new GM 6.6 gasser as well as the Ford 7.3 gasser. Did you read that GM is working on a new 8+ liter gasser? Very interesting, though I will probably just cough up the extra $9k and get the Duramax. My current favorite is the new Denali HD.

islam is not a religion. It is a way of life

islam has rules for the smallest thing in your life like how to drink water, how to eat and how to behave with animals

It has rules for governing, economy and health

It is vile

@tntgmc

unfortunately, there ARE a few who ruin for being hypocritical

and for being a liar

that's you and your fellow gm shills

@ Texas 1836

I haven't heard about the 8 liter gasser. I'll do some research. Sounds awesome. If anyone can do a pushrod V8 it's GM

You can't go wromg with the new Denali HD with the duramax. Last 4 comparison here on PUTC has proven its dominance

@ Texas1836

As you can see, they offer nothing again to forum. Look at above^^^^^comment

They make the case so easy for me....πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‚

@TNT

Another interesting thing about the new GM HD's is that they will not be torque limited, in other words, all 910 lb-ft of torque will go to the drive wheels (GM will be the only one in the segment doing this). You mentioned that GM won the last 4 PUTC HD truck towing competitions, this new feature should keep them on top. If I remember right, GM also had nearly a 2 mpg fuel economy advantage when towing maximum load compared to the competition.

@ Texas1836

You're correct sir. They know how to put all that HP/TQ to the pavement. Plus they get the FE

My 6.2L is same thing. Puts down the power and when I need it to, gets great FE. I average above 20 mpgs all day going to our lake house on interstate 29 in south dakota. That 8 spd and TQ.....never has to shift down.
My old 5.3L had to shift down on hills and that's why it got about 1 mpg less

"The FSeries is not a single vehicle---the Fseries is not a single vehicle. "
Right. It is a fight between the Toyota Hilux and the F150, as which is the most produced Pickup Globally

Here is an article on the new 8 liter

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.tfltruck.com/2019/02/rumor-is-chevy-working-on-a-big-block-gas-v8-engine-with-over-8-0-liter-displacement/amp/

Sounds fantastic. I believe it's everything papajim has stated and maybe wants??

Ahh yes... FORD, the only company that can build a DOHC V8 for their trucks and outsell the others.

You can't go wrong with a DOHC Ford V8. The best in the business.

The Silverado is not a single vehicle, the Sierra is not a single vehicle......etc .......

I think the exterior looks great. It has sharp modern lines, I actually like the exterior a little better than my Ram.

This site has become cespool of mental midgets jealous of GM success..

Bye bye idiots

Ford Quality is non existent, nothing but junk is being produced at the plants. Fires, brakes ,transmissions nothing seems to work anymore. Time to switch to Toyota and drive a Quality built truck. I'm tired of walking.

Nice video showing the truck on the track.

@Ron
I posted 3 separate videos above with this truck at Daytona. Check out the second video from the FLT at about the 26 second mark . Awesome sounds!

GMGREAT, thanks both are good videos

Man this truck look good live,,,

@ gmsrgreat

Man that truck sounds amazing. Love that small block V8 sound.

Everyone golf clap for the chevy.

At least the welfare wagon didn't repeat its NONperformance when it debuted in Detroit late last November.

For a chevy that can be considered "progress".

The F-Series is not a single vehicle. The Ranger is missing in action. Anybody seen one yet? Was it white, or black? Even a fleet model would be nice.

I just want to make sure it's not going to be like the VW-Ford partnership that evaporated in less than a week. Or the billions that Ford has spent on self driving cars and EVs.

@ Clint

Really. It was a software update. If you would read for comprehension. It said right in the article that the person driving hit a button to update it.

Again, like GMSRGREAT said, i'd rather sit there on the ice for a few minutes instead of starting on fire!

But hey, maybe you like barbecues??

"The F-Series is not a single vehicle.Posted by: papajim | Feb 21, 2019 7:23:19 AM"

You are right the F-series is not a single vehicle, just like the silverado is not a single vehicle, just like the Sierra is not a single vehicle, just like the Ram is not a single vehicle.

But tell me which of the 4 line-up of trucks i just mentioned outsells the other three??

@ Fullsize

Tell me which one outperforms the other??

I'll give you a clue, it's not the one that outsells the other!

I'll go with performance any day of the week over brainwashed propaganda.....

@Fullsize

Since you ask:

GM outsells RAM almost two to one. GM outsells Ford every year. The Chevy Colorado outsells the Ranger every year going back to about 2012.

I'd put some ice on that if I were you

"Tell me which one outperforms the other??Posted by: TNTGMC | Feb 21, 2019 8:09:43 AM"

You are seriously asking that? In 0-60 its like this:

At the top trim half tons = Ford.
At the mid-pack trim half tons = Ford
At the bottom trim half tons = Ford

At the bottom of HD = Ford
At the top of HD = GM

So overall i would say Ford easily outperforms Gm in full-size..... Sales and performance.

@ Fullsize

I did ask that

HD diesel ---GM

Half ton---GM

(We have yet to see the limited tested against 6.2L here)

Midsize--GM

All Pickup truck comparison has GM winning, except the gasser which Ford 6.2L won

BTW..

The new 4 cylinder outperforms the base v6

The 5.3l here on putc did outperform the twin turbo 2.7L v6 on some of the comparisons.....so that's a wash

We have yet to have ford bring in a 5.0L, but TFL did one on IKE gauntlet, and the 5.3L won.

And motor trend has already tested both midsize and the Colorado won by half a second

I'd say you have your propaganda on full swing their fella

The new (GM) 4 cylinder outperforms the (Ford) base v6
Posted by: TNTGMC | Feb 21, 2019

In all honesty Ford's little base V6 (3.3L) is a pretty spunky little motor compared to Ford's outclassed 5.0 V8

Not that the V8 sucks, it just was not designed to be a truck engine. Every V8 in GM's lineup (except Corvette/Camaro powertrains) are very well suited to truck duty. This is not new. Go back 10 years and Ford was using a passenger car engine in its truck lineup back then too.

Can anyone remember the Ford 360 FE? I'm thinking that was the last Ford V8 engine (gasser) they offered strictly as a truck motor. Forty years ago.

@tnt

Propaganda on full swing?? Yet here you are first stating the Limited has not been tested by PUTC yet you go and only cherry pick all the other places that have shown a Gm win??

You are outdoing yourself on that one!!

But here's from C/D to clarify what's the fastest half ton in the land: https://hmg-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/files/2019chevroletsilverado1500highcountry-vs-fordf150limited-vs-ram1500limited-finalscoringcompletespecsperformancedata-1545396085.pdf

Is the Ike 5.0L vs 5.3L you reference the one where its a 2wd vs a 4wd?? Thats a big NOPE on that one....

@Fullsize,

The guy is a full-blown bonafide ret@ard. I wouldn't bother with that twerp when she can present facts. The 3.5L ecob was a rocket up the IKE which beat his pretty 6.2L

That guy is a joke.

https://www.tfltruck.com/2018/12/ford-gm-ram-best-towing-truck-ike-gauntlet/

Papajim the insulter. The 360 FE was created by using the 352 crankshaft in a 390 block.
