The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was one of three half-ton pickup trucks to get a full redesign for the 2019 model year, and while its clearest competition came from our Best Pickup Truck of 2019-winning Ram 1500, the Chevy nevertheless offers an expanded mix of trim levels and powertrain choices that make it superior to its predecessor in almost every way.

Bow-Tie brand devotees may balk at the aggressive styling of the new Silverado 1500, but the most evident changes have been made under the truck. A new turbocharged four-cylinder, two new V-8s and a new turbo-diesel inline-six-cylinder engine (available summer 2019) all have improved the Silverado half ton for the better — it's a truck that's stronger and more fuel efficient at every level.
