New Ford Ranger Package Does Its Best 'Back to the Future' Impersonation

How many times have we all watched "Back to the Future" and swooned at Marty McFly's black-on-black 1985 Toyota SR5 Xtra Cab pickup truck? Black truck, black wheels, yellow KC HiLites auxiliary lights — it's still a coveted vehicle today. Toyota even made an homage on the 30th anniversary of the film with a modern Tacoma dressed up like the movie truck, but it never actually offered a production version (which we never quite understood). Well, now you can get that look on a new pickup again, but it's not a Toyota, it's the latest Black Appearance Package for the new 2019 Ford Ranger.

Ford announced you can preorder a 2019 Ranger with the new Black Appearance Package for $1,995 with deliveries in early summer. The Ranger's Black Appearance Package includes a host of blacked-out trim pieces, including a black grille, gloss 18-inch aluminum wheels with black center caps, black running boards, fender vent surrounds, mirrors, sill plates, lower valance, bedliner, sill plate and bash plate (on models equipped with the FX4 Off-Road Package). The bumpers are body-color, however, so they'll only be black if you choose a black truck.

Which you can, as the new package will be available on any color, but only on the Ranger XLT and Lariat trim levels. Still available is the Sport Appearance Package with its unique wheels and Magnetic Gray accents, and the Chrome Appearance Package that blings up the Ranger in case you want to go that route.

If it were us, we'd build a black XLT SuperCab with the FX4 Off-Road Package, slapping on an accessory brush guard, some KC driving lights and just hoping that nobody calls us "chicken."
