By Patrick Masterson
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 30 model-year 2019 Ram 1500 pickup trucks
The Problem: Improperly machined steering-column stub shafts may break, possibly causing the steering wheel to detach from the steering column, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect the steering column and replace it, as necessary, for free.
What Owners Should Do: Ram parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin notifying owners May 3. Owners can call FCA at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
