2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 Walk-Around: Video
By Robert Duffer
Following the 2019 redesigned half-ton Silverado, Chevrolet went heavy with the launch of the 2020 Silverado 2500 and 3500. Just about everything is new for Chevy's big dog, including a polarizing stand-up grille that is so tall it might take a step to work on the engine and a reach to shut the hood. Behind that big, bold face is a ton of torque-rich capability. Take a walk around the new Silverado heavy duty with us in the above video, and stay tuned because we'll soon be behind the wheel of the 2020 Chevy HD.

The carry-over 445-horsepower Duramax diesel pairs with a new heavy-duty 10-speed Allison transmission and churns out a whopping 910 pounds-feet of torque, providing a 52 percent increase in towing capability up to 35,500 pounds for Silverado 3500 dually rear-drive version with a regular cab. While it's not as much torque as the 1,000 pounds-feet in the 6.7-liter Cummins V-8 diesel in the Ram HD, it edges the Ram 3500 out in towing capacity by 500 pounds.

The standard powertrain is a larger 401-hp, 6.6-liter V-8 direct injection engine with a revised six-speed automatic transmission making 464 pounds-feet of torque, providing a 18 percent in increase in towing capability to 17,400 pounds.
Trailering is likely easier, too, thanks to 15 available camera views, including a transparent trailer view also offered in GMC's Sierra HD. It essentially makes what you're towing invisible so you can see behind and alongside it. Another segment exclusive is an all-wheel-drive capable transfer case so you can shift between two-wheel and four-wheel drive on the fly.
Inside, the regular, extended and crew cabs will be larger for rear seat passengers, with legroom increased to 3 inches for crew cabs. The cabin mirrors the half-ton Silverado.
The 2020 Silverado HDs go on sale this summer.
