Hey, Y'all, Watch This: Off-Roading in the 2019 Ram 2500 Power Wagon

By Brian Normile

If you're into things like large trucks getting down and dirty off the pavement, our full off-road video review of the 2019 Ram 2500 Power Wagon is out. Reviewer Aaron Bragman claims the Power Wagon is probably one of, if not the most apocalypse-ready factory stock vehicle on the market, and after watching this it's hard to disagree (unless you live near a Unimog dealership, I guess).

Bragman drove the Power Wagon over and through a ton of obstacles at the Badlands Off Road Park in Attica, Ind. — the Midwest's unofficial home of mud, dirt and sendin' it — where the only real limitation to the Power Wagon seemed to be its physical size. Barring an actual apocalypse, owners might be a little wary of how close certain obstacle features and trees seem.

There's no diesel engine option for the Power Wagon, which isn't great news for Cummins fans but, according to Ram, it just wouldn't work for what the truckmaker wanted the Power Wagon to be. The 12,000-pound Warn winch would interfere with the diesel's intercooler; the sheer size of the Cummins would negatively impact the Power Wagon's wheel articulation; and the added weight of the Cummins would counteract the goal of a lighter Power Wagon. But don't worry, because Bragman says the gas Hemi V-8 and new eight-speed automatic are great.

Be sure to check out the full video to see just a small, small taste of what the new Power Wagon is capable of.
