Ram announced new special editions of its 1500 half-ton and 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty pickup trucks at the 2019 State Fair of Texas, which opens to the public Friday and runs through Oct. 20 in Dallas. These new versions will have blacked-out exterior trim bits and wheels. Ram used regular shades of black for these special editions, unlike BMW's Vantablack X6, which BMW claims is painted the blackest black.

The 2020 Ram 1500 Limited Black Edition gets a black grille, including the R-A-M badging, as well as black 22-inch wheels. Other pieces getting the blackout treatment include the grille and headlight surrounds, exhaust tips, badging, side mirrors, bumpers, tow hooks and door handles. Limited Black Edition models also get a tonneau cover and performance hood as standard equipment.

Buyers won't have to choose a particular engine or drivetrain for their Limited Black Edition as it's available with the 3.6-liter eTorque Pentastar V-6, turbo-diesel 3.0-liter EcoDiesel and 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with or without the eTorque mild-hybrid system, and can be had in either 4x2 or 4x4 configurations. Pricing for a Limited Black Edition will start at $55,385 including the $1,695 destination fee.

For the 2020 heavy-duty 2500 and 3500, Ram is rolling out the Night Edition for Big Horn and Laramie models — like it already did for Big Horn and Laramie 1500s. Similar to their half-ton brethren, the Night Edition heavy-duties get black wheels, grille and grille surround, badging and headlight bezels. You can even build a Night Edition 3500 dually as Ram will offer 17-inch black wheels for the dual-rear-wheel crowd.

Night Edition 2500s and 3500s are available only as crew-cab models but can be either 4x2 or 4x4 and powered by either the gas 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 or the turbo-diesel 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six-cylinder engines. The lowest-priced Night Edition heavy duty will cost $39,690, again including a $1,695 destination charge.

Ram expects the 1500 Limited Black Edition to arrive at dealerships "late third quarter" of 2019 — so ... now, really — and the Night Edition 2500 and 3500 to follow "later fourth quarter."
