Vehicles Affected: Approximately 107,900 model-year 2014-19 Ram 1500 diesel-powered pickup trucks

The Problem: An internal investigation discovered microscopic cracks in some exhaust gas recirculation coolers, which may allow coolant to escape and, in rare circumstances, pose an engine fire risk.

Ram manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said it is aware of a small number of fires and four minor injuries that occurred when customers attempted to manually extinguish engine compartment fires, but it is unaware of any related accidents.

The Fix: A remedy has not yet been developed, but FCA said owners are advised to monitor coolant levels and contact their dealer if the levels are consistently low.

What Owners Should Do: FCA did not immediately announce an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call FCA at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
