Vehicles Affected: Approximately 52,000 model-year 2018-19 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter work vans

The Problem: The screw connection on the upper hood catch may have been improperly tightened. As a result, factors such as the van's speed, wind resistance and road conditions may cause the hood to open while being driven, reducing the driver's visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the screw connection, tightening it as necessary, for free.

What Owners Should Do: Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner manufacturer Daimler Vans will begin notifying owners Nov. 1. Owners can call the automaker at 877-762-8267, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit NHTSA's website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
