Chevrolet unveiled the updated 2021 Colorado mid-size pickup truck ahead of its official public debut as a race vehicle at the 2019 Method Race Wheels Laughlin Desert Classic Thursday. The 2021 ZR2 model will then make its first official public appearance at the 2019 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas in November.

So, what's changed for the Colorado? Not much. The changes for 2021 are apparently limited to the grille and bumpers — at least, that's all Chevy mentioned in its brief press release. The goal is to visually differentiate the various Colorado trim levels a bit more than the current truck, so the WT (Work Truck) and LT trim levels get new grilles with gold Chevy bow-tie emblems, while the Z71 off-road trim gets a black one. All models get new center bars, lower bumper designs and new tailgates with the word Chevrolet embossed in the sheet metal. The Z71 and ZR2 off-road-oriented models also get a new Sand Dune Metallic paint, exclusively offered on those trims. For the ZR2, a different lower bumper look will be fitted, as will red tow hooks and an exclusive, black-lettered Chevrolet grille with flow-through lettering.

There's no news about any other updates to the Colorado lineup, such as powertrains or interior upgrades — two areas where the Colorado and its sister truck, the GMC Canyon, could definitely use some attention. The new trucks will go on sale in 2020, with pricing to be released closer to the start of production.
