Vehicles Affected: Approximately 556,400 model-year 2019-20 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks, and model-year 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty pickups equipped with carpet floor covering

The Problem: When the front seat belt pretensioners deploy, hot gas may vent through an opening in the pretensioner bracket, possibly igniting the carpet and resulting in a vehicle fire, increasing the risk of injury.

The Fix: Dealers will close off the opening in the pretensioner bracket for free.

What Owners Should Do: Chevrolet and GMC manufacturer GM did not immediately announce an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call Chevrolet at 800-630-2438, GMC at 800-462-8782, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
