Ford announced upgrades to the 2022 Super Duty pickup trucks that target the trucks’ multimedia offerings as well as their paint and interior options. The heavy-duty pickups got their most recent update for the 2020 model year, but it didn’t come with Ford’s latest-and-greatest multimedia system, Sync 4, until now.

The updated ‘22 Super Duty trucks will feature the new 12-inch landscape-oriented touchscreen in the Lariat trim level and above, and will run Ford’s latest Sync 4 system — the same one that’s also appearing in the redesigned 2021 F-150 and new Ford Mach-E. The new screen includes physical buttons below the display for quick access to often-used functions; it can perform a split-screen function to see navigation, music, truck features and the genuinely useful digital owner’s manual simultaneously. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come with the new system, as well as Ford’s Sync AppLink apps. A basic 4.2-inch screen remains standard on XL trim trucks, and is upgradable to optional Sync 3 with an 8-inch screen, which comes standard on the XLT trim.

The Sport Appearance Package from F-150 and Ranger pickups now arrives on the Super Duty Lariat trim, bringing body-color bumpers, exterior mirrors and grille while adding a chrome exhaust tip and black running boards — the appearance goodies can also be mixed with the off-road Tremor package. And if you liked the Black Appearance Package (available in the fall) previously only available on the Lariat but didn’t have the scratch to afford the Lariat, you can now get the package’s black 20-inch wheels, running boards, body-color front and rear bumpers, and grille bars on the lesser XLT trim. You’ll really have to want it all blacked out, however — Ford says even its Blue-Oval logos have been painted black. A new Atlas Blue color we first saw on Ford’s SUV lineup arrives on the Super Duty, with a new Baja tan interior option for the Lariat and new Navy Pier and Light Slate interiors available on Limited trims.

Ford expects the 2022 Super Duty trucks with their upgrades to be available this summer.
