If you’ve been paying any attention to spy shots out of Detroit or rampant online speculation, you’ll know that Ford has been testing a compact pickup truck that was probably going to be named the Maverick. This morning, Ford finally copped to it, announcing that the 2022 Maverick will debut June 8.

That’s all Ford is giving us for now, unfortunately. We’re still left to speculate on the production Maverick’s size — it sure looks a lot smaller than a Ranger in some photos — as well as its powertrain, towing and payload capacity, feature set and price.
We’re also left to speculate why Ford is resurrecting its Maverick name on a small pickup — it was formerly a Ford compact car — though Ford’s not selling any cars other than the Mustang in the U.S. for the foreseeable future, so why not?
Be sure to check back June 8 for all the Maverick news. If you’d like to watch the Maverick being revealed, Ford is teaming up with actor Gabrielle Union, who will be showing off the truck on her Instagram and TikTok accounts. You can also see the Maverick debut on Hulu or Ford’s social media accounts.
